Background:

The RSPO started working on the Jurisdictional Approach (JA) since 2016, with pilots in the State of Sabah, Malaysia; the District of Seruyan, Central Kalimantan, Indonesia; and Ecuador. This approach aims to scale RSPO’s impact by applying its standards at a jurisdictional level through established Jurisdictional Entities (JEs).

At the 20th General Assembly (GA20) for RSPO Members, a resolution titled “Creating an RSPO Membership Category to Further the Development of RSPO Jurisdictional Approach for Certification” was tabled and adopted. The resolution proposes the revision of the RSPO Statutes and Code of Conduct for Members (CoC) to reflect the introduction of a new RSPO membership category for Jurisdictional Entities.

Amendments were made to the RSPO Statutes, in line with the resolution’s directives. The revised Articles include:

Article 4: Membership
Article 5: RSPO Membership Fee
Article 6: Admission of RSPO Members
Article 7: Rights of RSPO Members
Article 13: Working Groups

It is important to note that the RSPO CoC remains fully applicable to the Jurisdictional Members, and no amendments are necessary. Compliance with the CoC will also extend to Jurisdictional Members.
